A Woven Mesh Barrier, Not a Rigid Grill
A balcony safety net is a UV-stabilised, high-tenacity nylon or polypropylene mesh stretched across the open balcony face and secured to the floor, ceiling or railing with eye-bolts and edge rope. Unlike wire rope invisible grill, it is a soft, slightly flexible barrier - if a child or pet leans or falls against it, the net gives slightly rather than presenting a rigid surface, which many parents find reassuring for very young children.
When to Choose a Net Over Wire Rope Invisible Grill
Choose a safety net if you want the softest possible barrier for toddlers or pets, need to cover an irregular or very wide balcony opening economically, or want a removable/re-fittable system. Choose wire rope invisible grill (see our Balcony Invisible Grill page) if you want a barely-visible barrier that preserves the open, glass-like look of the balcony - the net is visible as a fine mesh, while wire rope is closer to invisible from a distance.
Material Grade We Use
We use knotted high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or nylon mesh with UV stabiliser additives so the net does not become brittle or discoloured after prolonged sun exposure, a common failure point in cheap, non-UV-rated nets that crack within a year on an open balcony. Edge rope is reinforced polyester for higher tear resistance at the anchor points.
How We Fit a Balcony Safety Net
We measure the exact balcony opening, cut the net to size with reinforced edge binding, and secure it using stainless steel eye-bolts anchored into the floor slab, ceiling soffit and side walls at close intervals, so the net stays taut without sagging. Corner and edge tensioning is checked to make sure there are no loose sections a child could push through.
